Screening of 'Changing Lanes' at Van Alen Institute

Van Alen InstituteBrooklyn, NY
Overview

A movie and a panel born from the belief that streets are our collective public space.

Join us on June 11th for a screening of Changing Lanes — a well-crafted and riveting documentary tracking the grassroots campaign to transform McGuinness Boulevard in Greenpoint. It's a story about power, pavement, and who the city is actually built for.

The film moves across NYC's street safety landscape, with appearances by David Byrne, former DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, and Pulitzer-winning journalist Henry Grabar — proof that this conversation is local but also important throughout all neighborhoods.

Then we go live. Five panelists pushing the edge of what public space can be:

  • Ben Wolf — director of Changing Lanes
  • Bronwyn Breitner — architect and lead force behind Make McGuinness Safe
  • Boris Santos & Debra Ack — advocates reimagining the public realm in East New York
  • Jim Burke — co-founder of the 34th Ave Open Streets Coalition, the people behind Paseo Park in Jackson Heights

One film. Three neighborhoods. A city worth it.

Moderated by Julie Torres Moskovitz & Casandra Jones of AIA Brooklyn’s Housing and Urbanism Committees.
