Return to African Indigo - Round 60: Textile Workshop

Participants will engage in the slow art of indigo dyeing under the guidance of Bernard Singleton.

• The Science of Blue: A lesson on the fermentation and oxidation process of the indigo plant, framed through the lens of West African chemistry.
• Textile Narrative: Each participant will dye a piece of fabric, learning how the Gullah-Geechee encoded information and spiritual intent into their textiles.
• Communal Thread: The workshop fosters a community atmosphere, encouraging dialogue between participants as they work with the same vat—a metaphor for the collective memory of the African Diaspora.
