Overview

Beginner or advanced, come learn the finer details and joys of growing your own mushrooms at home!

This is a 3-session, hands-on mushroom cultivation series, spread out over about a month. We will be meeting at the Pemberton Green house again, Saturdays at 10am. The demos will work through each stage of cultivation so you can leave the last day with self-inoculated blocks and the information to grow mushrooms at home.

Course outline:

Session 1 – Agar (June 6th)

  • Agar transfers and cloning
  • Clean technique and contamination awareness
  • Overview of the full cultivation process (agar → grain → substrate → fruiting)

Session 2 – Agar to Grain (June 13th)

  • Transferring agar to grain
  • Testing and using liquid culture
  • Grain inoculation and substrate preparation

(One week break for colonization)

Session 3 – Grain to Fruiting Substrate (June 27th)

  • Inoculating hardwood substrate
  • Final recap and troubleshooting
  • What to expect during fruiting at home

What’s included (to take home):

  • 24 agar cups
  • 3 grain jars
  • 3 fully sterilized 6-lb hardwood substrate bags

The full 3-class series and all materials are included.
