On September 28 and 29, A Winged Victory for the Sullen takes the Main Hall stage for a rare two-night engagement of luminous, slow-burning soundscapes. Their immersive compositions unfold with glacial intensity, blending piano, strings, and electronics into sweeping emotional landscapes. Known for deeply cinematic live performances, the duo invites audiences into an experience that feels both intimate and monumental. Featuring support from Pan•American.

About the artists

A Winged Victory for the Sullen are an ambient music project by composers and frequent collaborators Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O’Halloran. The duo met in Italy many years ago and initially only intended to release a single record as A Winged Victory for the Sullen, but the project has continued to live on and the pair have recorded a total of four full length albums, an EP and a soundtrack since forming in 2011.

In 2013, A Winged Victory for the Sullen were commissioned by famed choreographer Wayne McGregor to compose the score for his critically acclaimed dance piece Atomos. This music would form the basis for their second album, Atomos (2014, Erased Tapes). Another high note came in 2015, when Mary Anne Hobbs invited A Winged Victory for the Sullen to perform at the BBC Proms. In 2019, the two were commissioned to write the score for Leo Warner’s Invisible Cities, a large site-specific stage production, which premiered at the Manchester International Festival in July 2019. Also in 2019, they partnered with Ninja Tune to release their critically acclaimed album The Undivided Five, which NPR named as their album of the week, with one writer calling it: “One of the most beautiful records I’ve heard this year’’.

In 2021, they released their album Invisible Cities – an adaptation of their original soundtrack for the theatre production of the same name. The album adaptation broke into the top 15 of the UK album charts in its first week of release, and was endorsed by tastemakers such as Pop Matters, NPR, Clash and Pitchfork.

After touring the EU and UK in early 2020 with an immersive show, the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to cancel the North American leg. Now in 2026 they will finally bring the show to North America, performing there for the first time in 10 years.
