Wild Oyster Project's Monthly Volunteer Work Day (SF)
Join us every month to help with our Save Your Shucks program in SF!
About:
Join us for our first ever monthly volunteer work day that will take place every 4th Sunday of the month! Every month we will have volunteers help us with various Save Your Shucks tasks such as bucket painting, moving shell and learning about oysters!
Shell recycling is important step in restoring oyster populations that are at 1% of their historic levels. Oyster larvae are already free swimming in the water but they need something to attach to, and will always seek out oyster shells to attach to and grow! Part of our work is curing the shells we collect from restaurants in the sun for two years first before they can go back in the water.
Oysters are critical because they filter water, enhance biodiversity and protect shorelines from erosion. Read more about us and our shell recycling program here!: wildoysters.org/shell-recycling
