Big CouchNew Orleans, LA
Saturday, August 22  •  2:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Overview

Boost your improv skills in this fun, hands-on acting session!

In the final section of our workshop series, we will tie all of our previous work together to perform improv scenes with attention and support using clear characters and strong emotional choices. This will leave participants with a new confidence in their ability to communicate scripted work naturally and confidently.

This four-part workshop series taught by David James Hamilton will explore how the fundamentals of improv comedy can be applied to scripted acting. We will explore active listening, confident communication, character development, emotional decision making, and long-form improv scene work to build new skills that participants will be able to apply to every aspect of their acting careers—from stage to screen to auditions.

David James Hamilton is a New Orleans born and bred improviser and actor. He studied the Harold at the Glasgow Improv Theatre, graduated from the improv program at Two Friends Improv, as well as completed both the improv and sketch programs at The New Movement (TNM). From 2014 to 2018, he served as co-conservatory director, tech director, building manager, and improv teacher and coach at TNM, where he also helped build and served as director of their business workshop program. He founded Anubis Improv in 2018, and has since had the pleasure of teaching and developing a four-level long-form improv curriculum, an Improv for Actors curriculum and numerous business workshops for companies such as Camelback Ventures, The Posse Foundation, and Robinson Lumber. He performs improv regularly with Big Couch New Orleans and is a member of the film collective Windbreaker.
