Kids' Day: FINtastic Fish
Join us for a Kids' Day learning about fish and other critters that call the Inland Bays home!
Participants in this program get closer to the Bays than ever before as they explore the shallow waters of the Indian River Bay for aquatic life and handle living organisms! This program will focus on how forage fish and minnows fuel the food web in the estuary. As a group, we identify and discuss different fish, crabs, and other plants and animals that we can find here at the James Farm Ecological Preserve!
Perfect for participants of all ages! Kids’ Days offer children the opportunity to connect with nature through hands-on learning and exploration.
Participants will be in and around the water, so please wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and sandy. Closed-toe shoes are encouraged. Don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent, as the Preserve can be buggy at times.
We’ll walk approximately 0.5 miles to and from the beach, with the majority of the program spent wading in the water at the beach.
Important Notes:
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
This program is weather permitting.
Attendance is free, but registration is encouraged. We reserve the right to turn away walk-ups if necessary.
For the privacy and comfort of our participants, staff, and volunteers, video or audio recording is not permitted during our programs. Guests are welcome to take photographs, but we ask that you do so in a way that respects the privacy of others. Thank you for helping us keep our programs safe and welcoming for everyone.
Support the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays:
As you may know, recent federal changes may impact our funding, which currently accounts for nearly 60% of our budget. While challenges lie ahead, our commitment to preserving and restoring the Inland Bays remains strong. Your support is more important than ever. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to help us continue this vital work. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference (click HERE to donate).
