Play/Date: An Improvised Speed Dating Experiment (ages 40-49)

Studio TheatreWashington, DC

Overview

Tired of the "resume" style of first dates? Bored with the same small talk? It’s time to trade the algorithm for some actual chemistry.

This Is Not a Show—You’re Going on a Date

Play/Date: An Improvised Speed Dating Experiment isn't a performance where you sit in the dark and watch improvisers be funny. You are the main character. This is a high-energy, interactive singles event designed to help you meet people in the most fun way possible.

Why Improv?

Improv is the ultimate wingman. It’s all about being present, listening, and saying "yes" to the moment. We use the tools of improv to strip away the awkwardness of traditional speed dating. By stepping into a lighthearted "what if" version of yourself, the pressure to be "perfect" disappears, making room for genuine laughter and sparky connections.

How It Works

You’ll be guided through a series of short, playful mini-dates where you can explore a slightly different version of your own life path. Think of it as a "choose your own adventure" for your romantic life. Our expert facilitators will be there to keep the energy high and the vibes low-pressure—ensuring the only thing you have to focus on is having a great time. Everyone will be participating at the same time, so you’ll never be put ‘on the spot’.

The Details

  • When: Feb. 21 at 4 PM
  • The improvisers: Jack Barnes, Gwendolyn Bogard, Mikki Smith, Nick Tschernia, Alex Wilkinson
  • Tickets: $30 (includes admission to our 6 PM show)
  • Capacity: 20 spots for men interested in women | 20 spots for women interested in men; intended for ages 25-39
  • The Match: We’ll handle the logistics. After the event, you’ll tell us who you clicked with, and we’ll facilitate the contact info swap if the feeling is mutual.
