Raks Geek: Pride Edition
This Pride, nerd out with cosplay, burlesque, and wonder in an intimate speakeasy. "Sci-fi seduction." - The Daily Mail
"Set phasers to stunning." - The Daily Mail (UK)
Experience nerd delight with cosplay and wonder in an intimate speakeasy. We're celebrating Pride with tributes to fandoms from Star Wars to Marvel, Doctor Who to Nintendo with pole artists, burlesque performers, bellydancers, and circus artists who have performed around the world.
Featuring:
- Gaea Lady, Burlesque Hall of Fame winner ranked internationally in the "Top 50 Most Influential Burlesque Artists"
- Molly Meru, national pole instructor and multicolored maven with moxxi
- Lee Na-Moo, who's toured Europe with Bellydance Evolution
- Dawn Xiana Moon, who has sung the National Anthem for the Chicago Bulls and danced on Britain's Got Talent
- and more!
---------
"Never seen a Wookiee bellydance? This can be remedied." - MSN
Voted "Best Dance Troupe" (runner up) by the Chicago Reader, Raks Geek is the premiere cosplay performance company by geeks for geeks - they broke the internet's collective brain with a viral video of a Wookiee bellydancing to a four-piece Klingon band. Raks Geek is based in Chicago, but they've made waves nationally and internationally on MSN, The Daily Mail, and WGN-TV through their commitment to blend a high degree of artistic and technical mastery with fun, creativity, and themes from nerd culture.
"Absolutely electric from the moment they took the stage." - Third Coast Review
"Performances that channel favorite characters from movies and video games." - Chicago Tribune
---------
Accessibility: Our theater is up a flight of 21 stairs (plus a step up off the street) with railings on both sides of the staircase. We do have a separate entrance with dual railings if you prefer a private entrance that is less trafficked. We can also plan seating to accommodate your preferences (i.e seating you near an exit with close access to a single stall, wheelchair-accessible gender-neutral restroom).
While we do not have an elevator onsite, we do have access to a Genesis mobile stairlift (rated up to 400 pounds). Please email newporttheater@gmail.com in advance of your arrival to coordinate entry/operators/liability waivers.
We believe everyone should have access to the theater, so we're happy to work with you to ensure the best experience.
