Overview

This 7-week series is for those who are absolute beginners playing the mountain dulcimer.

In this series, instructor Delaine Sapp will cover tuning, reading tablature, basic strumming, playing chords, and beginning music theory, all related to the mountain dulcimer. This is a skill building class meaning each week is built on the previous week's skills. Upon completion of the series, participants will be able to care for their instrument and have a working knowledge of playing tunes.

This series runs on Mondays from Monday, June 1 to Monday, July 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Chattery.

Requirements include: mountain dulcimer, pick, tuner and music stand. A notebook with handouts, highlighter and pen will be provided. Please bring the required items to each class. If you do not already own a dulcimer, please contact The Chattery at info@thechattery.org if you need assistance with purchasing one or with getting an appropriate tuner.

About the teacher:

A retired Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Delaine Sapp has been involved in instrumental music performance and instruction all her life. She has performed in international venues and received awards for her skill with several instruments and styles of music. Her earliest venture into the music arts was the clarinet which led her to bagpipe bands and ultimately to the piano, the ukulele, penny whistle and the mountain dulcimer. Her passion for music includes composing and arranging and helping others pursue their musical journeys.
