Overview

Join the Office of Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Houston Parks Board for the ribbon cutting and Grand Opening of Hill at Sims, the first brand-new park in Sunnyside in nearly 50 years. This free event will feature a 9:30 AM ribbon cutting, family-friendly activities, recreational amenities, music, and food and beverage.

The nature-based, 100-acre regional park includes:

  • Three scenic overlook areas connected by a 1.6-mile loop and nature trails
  • Nearly 5 miles of new hike-and-bike trails
  • Hilltop pavilion with views of downtown Houston, Uptown, and the Texas Medical Center
  • Six reflective murals through Street Art for Mankind partnership
  • Water access pier for recreational fishing
  • Nature center pavilion with restrooms

Hill at Sims also provides access to the over 20 miles of hike-and-bike trails along the Sims Bayou Greenway. Built around an existing, 100-acre regional detention basin owned by the Harris County Flood Control District, the site combines critical flood resilience infrastructure with recreational amenities.

Be prepared for warm weather! We encourage guests to dress for the heat in comfortable, weather-appropriate attire.

Free parking is available at RIG Church (10800 Scott Street, Houston TX 77047) with complimentary shuttles to the park from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
