Overview

Learn about the geology over, and under your state park

During the last Ice Age, a large ice sheet covered Westchester County and much of New York City. During the program, Mike Kaplan will mention the clues that we look for to know that the New York City region was covered by an ice sheet. Mike will also discuss in general the evidence that was left behind across the landscape.

Weather permitting, we will walk to the Glacial Erratic. Mike is a Geologist and Scientist at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, studying how glaciers and landscapes changed in the past
