Overview

Tango is for everyone! Join us for classes at the beautiful Berkeley City Club.

Tango teacher Carrie Field will be teaching at the Berkeley City Club for three dates only!

Join this beautiful dance of walking in an embrace to orchestrated music. We will learn and explore basic tango figures with a focus on movement fundamentals. The teacher leads us through tango exercises and invites us to explore how the body moves. No partner necessary; the teacher encourages students to switch partners throughout the class. You may also choose to stay with one partner.

Carrie’s classes are influenced by her experience in Pilates, Gyrotonics and Yoga. She writes, “I hope to offer insight that enhances physical presence with yourself and your partner. These tango classes will be influenced by Tango Inform, which is a collection of exercises to prepare the body specifically for tango.” More info on tango inform: https://tangoinform.wordpress.com/

Carrie also teaches an intermediate tango class at 8:30 pm on the same dates. The intermediate series is geared towards people who have been dancing tango for at least three months (12 tango classes).

Carrie Field fell in love with tango in 2004. After much study and many trips to Buenos Aires, she began teaching in Taos, New Mexico in 2009. She then noticed a missing educational experience for tango dancers and investigated how to condition her own and students’ bodies for better access to the dance. This exploration resulted the material of Tango Inform. Carrie has a B.A in dance and a masters in occupational therapy. She is certified in Pilates, yoga, Gyrotonic©, and has more than 30 years of experience teaching these movement modalities. She taught tango as a part of Taos Tango for many years and feels privileged to have taught at many tango festivals in the Southwestern U.S. Carrie has a passion for understanding the moving body and is excited to share with her tango community!

Drinks are for sale at Morgan’s Bar and Lounge, across the hall from the ballroom. All ages are welcome in the dance classes.

We are a 10-minute walk from Downtown Berkeley BART. For bike parking, use the bell to enter through the service entrance, and go straight to get to the back courtyard. No parking in the City Club lot. Street parking is free after 6:00 pm.
