Cast-Ons for Better Knitting with Kyle Kunnecke

Cast-Ons for Better Knitting with Kyle Kunnecke

Overview

In this one-hour workshop we’ll explore several cast-on techniques and how each one influences the beginning edge of your fabric.

A knitting project begins with a cast on, yet many knitters rely on the same method again and again. In this one-hour workshop we’ll explore several cast-on techniques and how each one influences the beginning edge of your fabric.

Students will learn and practice a range of cast-ons, comparing methods that create different edge styles. We’ll also discuss how to choose the most appropriate cast-on for different types of projects and fabrics.

By the end of class you’ll have several cast-on options to choose from and a better understanding of how the first stitches of a project can impact the finished project.

Prerequisites: Students should already know how to knit and purl.

Materials (Please bring to class):

  • 2–3 partial balls of worsted-weight yarn in high-contrast colors (one should be light in color). Yarns should be similar in fiber and structure.
  • Knitting needles appropriate for the yarn (straight or circular)
