Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving with Caroline Levin

Overview

Are you ready to try your first weaving project? This class is for YOU! Learn how to warp and weave your way to success.

Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving - A Class for Those Ready to Try Their First Project! No experience necessary.

You’ll start by putting the warp yarn on the loom - which may be easier than you think. By the end of the class you’ll have dressed the loom and started weaving one or more mug rugs! Class size will be limited to ensure a quality learning experience.

What you’ll learn:

  • Parts of the loom, the accessories and how they work
  • Direct warping on a peg
  • Rolling the warp onto the loom
  • Winding and passing the shuttle
  • Spreading the warp and weaving headers
  • Finishing techniques to complete at home — straight sewing or hemstitching, trimming fringe, wet finishing. No experience necessary for this class.

Materials students need to bring:

  • Your rigid heddle loom with table clamps
  • Loom stand if you have one
  • A heddle reed of 7.5 or 8 dents per inch
  • Warping peg
  • Cardboard packing sticks if you have them
  • A full size paper grocery bag
  • Threading hook
  • 1 stick shuttle
  • Scissors
  • A pencil
  • A measuring tape
  • At least one skein of worsted-weight cotton such as Queensland Coastal Cotton, or Lily Sugar and Cream, or similar, about 100g or 185 yards.
  • Some worsted-weight waste yarn if you have it

Please Note: There will also be a $2 kit fee for class educational materials.
