Jazz Lab KC 2026 Spring Recital
Live Jazz recital featuring developing musicians refining performance and improvisation at the Historic Mutual Musicians Foundation.
Join us for the Jazz Lab KC Spring 2026 Recital, a live performance experience highlighting musicians committed to advancing their craft in jazz ensemble playing and improvisation.
Presented by the Mutual Musicians Foundation International (MMFI), Jazz Lab KC is part of a broader ecosystem of programming rooted in the Historic 18th & Vine District—where education, performance, and cultural preservation intersect in real time.
This lab is designed for musicians who are actively working to:
- Strengthen their ability to perform within a live jazz ensemble
- Develop fluency in jazz language and structure
- Build confidence and identity through improvisation
- Engage in the collaborative tradition that defines Kansas City jazz
Throughout the program, participants rehearse, study, and apply concepts in a practical setting—culminating in this recital performance inside one of the most significant jazz institutions in the world.
The Mutual Musicians Foundation, known for its historic late-night jam sessions, provides a living environment where musicians don’t just learn about jazz—they actively participate in its continuation.
What to Expect:
- Live ensemble performances by Jazz Lab KC participants
- Improvisation-driven sets rooted in Kansas City jazz tradition
- A listening-room environment centered on musical interaction
- A direct connection between education and live performance practice
This recital reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to developing musicians, sustaining legacy, and creating space for growth within the culture.
