Roots & Rays Garden Training Workshops

Jane Addams Hull-House Museum(JAHHM)draws upon the legacy of international peace activist and feminist, Jane Addams, and other social reformers who worked, alongside their immigrant neighbors, to create social change on the Near West Side of Chicago during the Progressive Era. The Museum preserves and develops the original Hull-House site for the interpretation and continuation of the historic settlement house vision. Exhibitions and public programs elevate histories of activism, progressive education and democratic principles of participation and exchange, and connect them to present-day social justice issues.

NOTE: This even takes place at La Huerta Roots &amp; Rays (1523 W Cullerton) Join the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum at La Huerta Roots &amp; Rays Community Garden in Pilsen for a hands-on community gardening experience. Whether you are new to gardening or have expertise you’d like to share, Hull-House invites you to join this outdoor summer workshop series. Feel free to drop in for a single workshop or attend all three. Each session will highlight different skills and periods of the growing season. All ages are welcome: Roots &amp; Rays has toys and a play area for younger participants. This collaborative workshop series is presented as part of Hull-House’s 2026 exhibition Perennial City: Experiments in Urban Gardening. The exhibition explores Chicago’s early experiments in urban gardening through histories of immigration and social reform—from immigrant gardeners cultivating leased industrial land to contemporary artists reimagining the city’s soil as a site of abundance and mutual care.
