Overview

Discover how to improvise in Shakespeare’s style in this advanced improv class.

About the Class: Love. Jealousy. Betrayal. Ambition. Shakespeare used powerful emotions to tell timeless stories that still captivate audiences today–and you can too! Learn the building blocks of improvised Shakespeare including language patterns, narrative devices, and character archetypes to create a larger-than-life Shakespearean comedy on the spot. This class will add techniques to your improv toolkit to use in improvised Shakespeare and beyond. This class requires students to have completed LIP's Improv 201 or Artistic Director approval. Students must be 18 or older for this class.

This Class will run Mondays from 7pm-9:30pm on the following dates: 6/8, 6/15, 6/22, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, (no class 7/20), 7/27 and 8/3. This class has a class show on Saturday 8/8 at 6pm! Ticket sale ends at noon on Saturday 6/6! Tickets go on sale Wednesday 5/6 at 6pm!

About the teacher: Renee Miller is an improviser with an acting background who performs at Lancaster Improv Players with the house team Luxury Gas, and the indie teams Leatherwood Hill and The Five. Renee studied improv at the American Conservatory Theater and BATS in San Francisco, the PIT in New York City, and of course, at Lancaster Improv Players. She holds a BA in Theater, and graduated from New Actor’s Workshop, a two-year professional actor training program where she learned Viola Spolin’s approach to improv. As an actor, Renee is trained in Shakespeare voice, speech, and text analysis, and has performed in Shakespeare plays. Renee is the founder of Open City Improv Playhouse, a new theater lab that believes improvisation offers rich tools for both scripted and unscripted works.
