Parenting Your Queer Child: Discussion & Support

Parenting Your Queer Child: Discussion & Support

A Seat at the Table BooksElk Grove, CA
Sunday, June 7  •  2 PM - 3:45 PM
Overview

Is your child queer or questioning? Join ASATTCI, Central Valley Pride, Sac LGBT Center, and PFLAG Sac for a supportive discussion.

If you're interested in this gathering, we're already proud of you! You know that your child needs and deserves your support as they explore their identity, but the world you grew up in likely didn't prepare you to offer that. We're here to help. Panelists with a range of life experience will hold a Q&A, and we'll then hold two breakout sessions so you can connect with small groups about different topics relevant to your own journey to support your child.

This event is consciously inclusive of all families, including foster and adoptive youth/parents, and all queer identities. As a welcoming space for parents and caregivers who want to be supportive and don't know all the answers, this will be a beginner-friendly space. Youth are welcome to come along with their adults and hang out in our play area or quiet room.

This event is hosted by four partner organizations:

  • A Seat at the Table Community Initiative
  • Sacramento LGBT Center's youth and family programs
  • PFLAG Sacramento
  • Central Valley Pride

Panelists include:

  • Emily Autenrieth is a queer adult parenting a queer child. Ey founded A Seat at the Table Books and ASATT Community Initiative to foster a safe and welcoming community for everyone.
  • Maria Christina Solis is a parent of a transgender child who is also supporting 6 other transgender youth whose parents don't support them. She volunteers with PFLAG as a LGBQT+ advocate.
  • Romel Antoine is a community advocate, facilitator, and creative committed to helping people reconnect to their power and each other. With deep roots in education and organizing, he specializes in creating environments where vulnerability and joy can coexist.
  • Jeana and Taylor are a queer couple who have served as foster parents since 2019 and became adoptive parents in 2024. They have been active advocates in their county for both foster youth and foster parents, while also raising awareness about the lack of education, training, and support available for LGBTQ+ foster youth and caregivers.
