Canal Basin Park - Take a Hike Summer Series tour
Canal Basin Park will be the beginning of the 101-mile Towpath Trail and Downtown's gateway to the Ohio &. Erie Canalway National Heritage.
Step into the heart of Cleveland’s industrial and transportation legacy at Canal Basin Park—the only place in America where three national heritage designations converge: a National Heritage Area, an America’s Byway, and an American Heritage River.
Located at the northern terminus of the 101-mile Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, this site once served as a vital connection point between Lake Erie and the Ohio River, helping transform Cleveland into a booming port city and gateway to the Midwest.
On this guided tour, discover how Canal Basin fueled the flow of goods, people, and ideas during the city’s rise as an industrial powerhouse. Explore how its historic legacy is being reimagined through thoughtful design and revitalization. The evolving 20-acre park honors the past while embracing the future—with green space, public art, and connections to the riverfront for walking, biking, and community gathering.
Learn how this unique site will serve as Downtown Cleveland’s front door to the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, blending history, recreation, and regional pride in one unforgettable destination.
Parking is available onsite at Canal Basin Parking Lot.
This Take a Hike® Stroll is made possible through a partnership with Canalway Partners.
