Founded in 1898, the National Arts Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to stimulate, foster, and promote public interest in the arts and to educate the American people in the fine arts. Annually, the Club offers more than 150 free programs—both in-person and virtually—to the public, including exhibitions, theatrical and musical performances, lectures, and readings, attracting an audience of over 30,000 in-person visitors and thousands more online. <p>In her acclaimed new book, Pride and Pleasure, a finalist for three major biography awards, best-selling author Amanda Vaill illuminates the lives of Angelica and Elizabeth Schuyler, daughters of colonial aristocracy who got caught up in the turmoil of America’s insurrection against Great Britain. Although the sisters have recently become meme-worthy as supporting characters in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical Hamilton — Eliza married Alexander Hamilton, and Angelica became his muse — Vaill’s deep archival and contextual research reveals that they were revolutionary figures in their own right, politically, socially, and personally. Join us as she explores how placing them front and center transforms the way we see our own history as we approach our nation's 250th birthday.</p>
