Build Your Custom Palette: Independent Study in Oil or Acrylic

Kansas City Artists CoalitionKansas City, MO
Saturday, June 20  •  11 AM - 3 PM
Overview

Stop guessing your mixes and start painting with technical confidence. Taught by Vanessa Lacy.

Stop guessing your mixes and start painting with technical confidence. This intensive is designed to help you build a professional color palette tailored to your specific goals.

The Workshop Focus

Whether you bring a personal reference photo or choose a historical painting for a Master Study, you will receive individualized guidance to sharpen your technical execution. We will focus on:

Color Strategy: Building a cohesive pre-mixed palette for your chosen subject.

Paint Application: Touching on specific techniques to improve the physical handling of your medium.

Technical Accuracy: Mastering values, color saturation, and hue.

Independent Growth: Solving the specific color challenges in your unique work.

Expected Outcome

Students will have a solid start with significant progress and a clear path forward.

Supply List

Students will receive a detailed supply list upon registration.

The list includes a split primary palette of paints (oil or acrylic), brushes, palette knives, paint medium, a brush washer, and paint rags. We recommend a Grey Matters palette (12” x 16”), preferably in a sealable box for mess-free transport.

This is the same list used for all previous classes; however, students will also need to bring:

  • A printed copy of their chosen reference photo.
  • A painting surface (canvas, primed wood panel, or canvas pad) in any size from 8” x 10” up to 16” x 20”.

The image can be traced out ahead of time using a projector or drawn by hand. Alternatively, students may begin their image on a blank canvas in class, depending on their own drawing abilities and artistic process.
