Cooking Class for KIDS + TEENS: Farm-to-Fork Lunch
Get hands-on making lunch from farm-fresh ingredients!
Kids and teens are invited for a farm-to-fork cooking experience at True Cut Ranch.
Homemaking, especially getting weeknight dinners on the table, didn't come naturally to me. I regretted not learning more home economics skills as a kid, but it wasn't too late for me and it's not too late for you to learn skills such as those included in this session:
- Marinating and cooking chicken
- Beginner knife skills
- Gluten-free, dairy-free, shellfish-free, and nut-free cooking
- Create a summery cucumber and tomato salad
- Roast potatoes in lard (you won't believe how delicious the humble potato can be!)
- Blend a gorgeously green herby drizzle to finish off our plates
- Frugal ways to incorporate in-season veggies and herbs into summer cooking
Hi, I'm Melissa Falcone and accidentally I became a farmer. Really my heart is in feeding people, food security, and breaking bread with people I love. Cooking and hospitality didn't come naturally to me, so I'm creating a hands-on series to equip and encourage others who want to improve their homemaking skills, starting with the basics, but in a way that's fun, community-building, and delicious! Our family has been homeschooling since 2010 and our youngest two sons, ages 12 and 15, often join in for tours and classes. Welcome to Cooking Class for KIDS + TEENS at True Cut Ranch.
This farm-to-fork luncheon will include freshly-harvested veggies and herbs from the garden and farm-raised chicken. First we'll get some chicken marinating (and learn all about freestyling your own marinade at home) then start our starch and veggie side dishes. We'll create a zippy green herby drizzle to finish off our summer-inspired lunch. After all our food is prepared we'll gather around a picnic table at our covered Creekview area to enjoy our farm-to-fork meal together.
What to bring:
- An apron if you wish to wear one
- Water bottle
- Your grown up (parents/chaperones please stay on the farm - there's plenty of outdoor seating at the red barn and fishing pond, and you're invited to explore our adjacent farm store while your student enjoys thier cooking class experience)
What's included:
- Small group experience at the farm
- Instruction and supplies
- Farm-to-fork lunch that we'll prepare together
