Overview

A fun hands-on club where we will explore, experiment, research, and design.

Here at DINO-MITE MINDS STEAM CLUB learning is fun! Activities will be themed to the summer reading program ‘Unearth a Story’. Become a junior chemist, detective, paleontologist, archaeologist and much more! (Kids ages 8-12 years)

Weekly STEAM projects:

June 5 / Be a Junior Chemist (Fizzy Dino Eggs) Explore what happens when an acid and base are mixed together and learn about the three states of matter while dissolving a dinosaur egg!

June 12 / Be a Junior Ecologist (Build a Worm Hotel) Discover how worms help our soil by eating dead things, digging tunnels, and bringing nutrients to the top. Let’s build a worm hotel and observe!

June 19 / Be a Junior Detective (Garbology Digging for Clues) Learn about gathering clues, recording information, and making educated guesses, as we become junior garbage detectives!

June 26 / Be a Junior Paleontologist (Dino Discovery Tour Around the Library) Learn about different dinosaurs and fossils as we impart on a dino discovery tour in the library. Practice taking notes in your very own field journal.

July 10 / Be a Junior Historian (Fireworks in a Jar) “Oh say can you”... make a firework inside a glass jar? Come find out as we explore the concept of density and celebrate America!

July 17 / Be a Junior Archaeologist (Chocolate Chip Cookie Excavation) Dig, dig, dig but carefully, as we unearth some chocolate chips from a cookie and map them on our site excavation maps! Learn about how archaeologists work and enjoy a cookie as a reward! (Note: cookies will contain gluten)

July 24 / Be a Junior Artist (Design and create a Georgia O’Keeffe inspired southwestern wall hanging.) Come join us as we “meet” an artist from the past and find out why she used a unique item in her paintings... BONES! Learn about Georgia O'Keeffe and have fun designing an art project inspired by her.
