About the Tour: Playhouse Square was developed in the 1920s with six movie theaters and one Broadway House (the Hanna). Four of the theaters remain and beginning in 1980, have been developed into the nation’s second largest performing arts center, behind Lincoln Center in New York. Playhouse District is now a fully mixed-use neighborhood with the development of the Lumen in 2020 and new mixed-use residental project in progeress.
