A KUOW Focus Live Event: Adults in the Room

Seattle Public Library - Central LibrarySeattle, WA
Thursday, June 18  •  7 PM - 8:30 PM
Overview

Join KUOW Thursday, June 18 for a special live event to discuss the Focus podcast series Adults in the Room.

This event is sold out. A recording of the event audio will be available on the podcast following the event.

Following the conclusion of Adults in the Room, the newest series in KUOW's Focus documentary podcast channel, join us to unpack the series and the questions it raises at this live community event.

Adults in the Room is an investigative podcast that revisits a complicated story out of Seattle’s Garfield High School in 1999. Allegations of abuse against a popular teacher set off a chain of events that still haunts former students and teachers today.

KUOW journalist Isolde Raftery was a senior at Garfield in 1999, and one of the people who reported the rumors about the teacher’s misconduct to the authorities. In their present-day reporting, Isolde and the team behind the podcast discovered that what happened at Garfield in 1999 could still happen — and too often does happen — in schools today.

Join us on Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at The Seattle Public Library for an evening of conversation about the making of Adults in the Room. Hear directly from the team behind this series as they share what went into the reporting, what surprised them along the way, and their biggest takeaways from the podcast.

Moderated by:

Libby Denkmann, host of KUOW's Soundside

Featured panelists:

Isolde Raftery, Managing Editor, KUOW

Jeannie Yandel, Special Projects Editor, KUOW

Alec Cowan, Senior Podcast Producer, KUOW

Ella Hushagen, Attorney
