Overview

Grow and paint pansies in a relaxed garden workshop—learn simple seed-starting tips and create your own watercolor blooms.

Pansies in Bloom: Growing & Watercolor Workshop

Join us for a beautiful early summer afternoon at Christianson’s Nursery, where garden and art come together in celebration of the beloved pansy.

We’ll begin in the garden with farmer-florist and author Brenna Estrada, who will share her tried-and-true techniques for growing pansies from seed. Learn how to achieve strong germination, healthy plants, and abundant blooms that carry through the season. You’ll head home with a packet of specialty seed—perfect for continuing the experience at home.

From there, we’ll transition into a guided watercolor workshop with artist and author Sarah Simon, also known as The Mint Gardener. With her gentle, approachable style, Sarah will introduce the foundations of watercolor painting through flowing washes and simple techniques. You’ll then apply what you’ve learned to paint pansies on a pre-drawn template—no drawing experience required.

All supplies are included with your registration, along with a thoughtfully curated watercolor kit to take home—featuring professional paints, brushes, and Sarah’s beloved Watercolor Workbook—so you can continue your practice long after the class ends. Guests will also enjoy a selection of light bites and beverages throughout the afternoon.

This workshop is designed for all skill levels and offers a rare opportunity to slow down, learn something new, and enjoy the simple beauty of both gardening and creative expression.

If you already own one of Sarah’s books, feel free to bring it for signing—additional copies will also be available for purchase following the class.
