Gene Editing with CRISPR (for ages 12-18)
Baltimore UnderGround Science Space (BUGSS)Baltimore, MD
Saturday, July 11 • 10 AM - 1 PM
Overview
You too can edit DNA using the revolutionary CRISPR technology!
CRISPR/Cas9 technology has revolutionized science since its first published use in non-bacterial cells in 2013. Winning the 2020 Nobel Prize in chemistry, CRISPR is a versatile tool that can be used in countless ways to further discovery including: inactivating mutant disease-causing genes, activating protein pathways, labeling proteins or cells, or for cancer therapy. This course will cover the molecular mechanisms of how the CRISPR/Cas9 system works, discuss current and future applications of the technology, and give hands-on experience in implementing CRISPR technology in the lab.
Note: this class meets on both July 11 and July 18th. Your ticket covers both days.
