Overview

Want to understand and appreciate, and even start to work with perfume? We're here to help in a hands- and noses-on introductory workshop!

Perfume 101 serves as an orientation session for newcomers to the field, olfactive adventurers, curious minds, and budding scent enthusiasts who need a little boost.

In this theory-focused introduction to perfumery, participants will learn about perfume basics such as fragrance families and classifications, get an introduction to perfume-making in a lab, and get an introduction to the different kinds of aromatic materials. As a group, the class will learn the difference between top, middle and bottom notes, what's in a perfume lab, get a brief introduction to perfume math concepts, and more. We'll smell and look at different aromatic materials, useful labware used in blending scents, and more!

Take-Aways:

  • Participants will leave with the basic knowledge they need to start a journey down the rabbit hole of appreciating and even making scent.

Please note: This is primarily a lecture-based class, with a smelling component. There is one group blend exercise and one individual blend exercise, with participants taking home a small spray vial of their individual scent blend and select reference materials. If you wish to take a class with a hands-on focus, please register for Introduction to Perfume Blending.

Location

We are located in Los Angeles’ historic Chinatown neighborhood, on a pedestrian street. Street Address: 932 Chung King Road Los Angeles CA. 90012

Cancellation policy

When we host a class or workshop, we often order the materials to be used in the class well in advance, based on how many people have signed up (and padding a bit for safety). We also use class proceeds to pay our teachers. Although we realize that life has a funny way of getting in the way of the best laid plans, as a small non-profit we cannot afford to carry the burden of lost proceeds and materials.

With that in mind, here is our refund policy:

– Cancellation with refund or credit requests made 2 weeks or more (14 days) before the scheduled class will be honored with gusto! We’ll miss you, but will 100% refund your spot, or give you credit for another class.

– Refunds or class credits requested less than 14 days before the scheduled session or after the class has happened: refunds will not be granted. The exception to this, of course, is if you have been exposed to Covid-19, or are feeling symptoms yourself.

- Event tickets are non-transferable.

Thank you!
