Repair-To-Re-Wear Workshop

Repair-To-Re-Wear Workshop

1603 E 38th 1/2 StAustin, TX
Saturday, May 16  •  12 PM - 3 PM
Overview

Bring a garment in need of repair or alteration and learn how to make it work for you!

Do you have a garment lurking in the back of your closet that needs a simple repair to be wearable again? Maybe a missing button, patch, hem adjustment, or simple alteration? We can show you how!

Join us Saturday, May 16th for our repair workshop and finally make that garment work for you again!

This workshop includes:

  • Guidance on simple and complicated alterations
  • Hand stitching techniques
  • Basic sewing tools to borrow
  • Extra fabrics
  • Practice garments
  • Sweet & savory snack bar (vegan + vegetarian options available)
  • Hot & cold beverages

*Add-on a custom made sewing kit to take home when you purchase your ticket.

Repairs we can tackle:

  • Button reattachment and replacement
  • Repair of tears or worn spots in clothing
  • Taking up or letting out hems
  • Take in waistlines or bust
  • Replace elastic

What you bring to class:

  • Your own garment in need of repair or alteration
  • Any sewing tools you want to use
  • Option to bring your own sewing machine
  • Option to bring your own food

Note from your instructor:

We will have our own sewing machine on site during this class. I can give you guidance and get you started on complicated alterations. More advanced alterations such as fitting a princess seam, darted bust, and tailoring is beyond the scope of this workshop. If you are comfortable completing the sewing on your own, I can help with fitting and alteration suggestions. However, we may not be able to complete the alteration at the workshop. Please consider that invisible alterations to delicate fabrics such as leather, satin, or lace may not be possible. If you are unsure, bring in your garment and we’ll assess!

About your instructor:

Hello, I’m Amanda Cuellar. I have been sewing for over 10 years. I sew items ranging from jeans, evening gowns, kids leggings and tees. I also have extensive knowledge in visible mending, alterations of all kinds, and garment repairs. My approach to sewing is a bit of creativity, technical knowledge, and a ‘can do’ attitude. I am passionate about making quality garments that stand the test of time and extending the life of clothing. Sustainability, for me, is an integral part of sewing. Whether it’s using reclaimed fabric, making a perfectly fit garment that you’ll use again and again, or giving new life to a thrifted/lovingly worn article of clothing, I am passionate about keeping clothes out of landfills!
