Activism in Action: Hand-sewn Mending Workshop

Activism in Action: Hand-sewn Mending Workshop

Gallery5Richmond, VA
Saturday, May 30  •  10 AM - 12 PM
Overview

Join local artist Megan Nolde to learn basic hand-sewn mending techniques, including sewing buttons, adding patches, and hemming garments.

Learn hand-sewn mending techniques to make your favorite clothes last longer, and fight consumerism!

Did you ever dream that a needle and thread could be anti-capitalist? Well, when you prolong the life of your clothes by repairing them instead of throwing them away, you refuse to feed the consumer capitalist beast!

Local artist Megan Nolde will show participants how to sew on buttons, add patches to cover holes in clothes, and hem garments like pants and skirts. If there's any time left, and specific needs present, we might cover other techniques too.

All materials are provided (needles, thread, spare fabric, buttons, patches) but if you have specific garments that need these mendings done to them, feel free to bring them!

This workshop is led by Megan Nolde, Gallery5's Board Chair and a practicing local artist with an MFA in Printmaking from Tyler School of Art. This event is free to attend!
