Tradition! In Oil Painting
Painting Workshop with Kate Hoekstra
Renowned artist Kate Hoekstra will guide participants in a hands-on workshop designed to make starting a still life painting not only easier but also lead to a more satisfying completion.
Drawing on techniques inspired by the Old Masters, Kate breaks down classical methods into approachable steps suitable for painters with some experience. A live bouquet of fresh spring flowers will be provided as the subject.
“While I long admired classical painting, I avoided it for years, thinking it was beyond my reach as a self-taught artist,” Kate shares. “That changed when I studied at the Silvermine School of Art, where I learned simplified techniques that make this tradition accessible to any painter.”
After years of applying these methods in her own vibrant still lifes and portraits, Kate now focuses on helping others overcome the intimidation often associated with classical painting. A strong advocate for hands-on learning, she will demonstrate key techniques and offer individualized guidance as participants practice.
The workshop fee is $65. Enrollment is limited to eight participants with some oil painting experience. A supply list will be provided in advance. Participants are encouraged to bring an easel; a limited number will be available if needed.
This exhibit is supported by a grant from the Anne Anastasi Foundation, facilitated by Jonathan Galente and Mary Beth Minton.
