Building Resilience in the Classroom: Strategies Through the STAHR FrameworkPanel DiscussionThis session brings together diverse perspectives and professional expertise to support school communities in addressing immigration-related stress through trauma-informed practices. The focus extends beyond the “whole child” to also include the “whole educator.” Participants will be introduced to the STAHR Framework (Supportive, Trauma-Informed, Approaches, Humanizing, and Resilience), a structured approach designed to support multilingual learners and their families. Grounded in culturally responsive teaching and trauma-informed research, this framework integrates a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide practical strategies educators can use across all levels of support. The goal is to ensure student well-being and safety are prioritized throughout the school environment, while also recognizing resilience as a supported, ongoing process rather than a fixed trait.Our Training will include:<ul><li>Legal and Policy Guidance: An overview of federal and state laws, including recent updates, with a focus on protecting student privacy and responding appropriately to immigration-related inquiries in school settings.</li><li>High School and SLIFE Support: Practical insights from the high school classroom, including strategies to support Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) and those impacted by trauma.</li><li>Community Coalition Building: An exploration of “ecosystem wellness,” highlighting how schools can build strong partnerships with community organizations to better support students and families.</li><li>Humanizing Pedagogy and Classroom Supports: Strategies to build student confidence through approaches such as translanguaging and SIOP, honoring students’ home languages while supporting academic growth.</li><li>The Impact of Migration on Families: A look into how migration affects family dynamics and student experiences, helping educators recognize stress-related behaviors and respond with empathy.</li><li>Teacher Wellness and Sustainability: Tools and strategies to support educator well-being, including methods for mitigating compassion fatigue, preventing burnout, and promoting a positive, sustainable school culture.</li></ul>Who Should Attend:<ul><li>Administrators: Learn how to align school policies with legal requirements while fostering a safe, inclusive environment for students, families, and staff using the STAHR framework within MTSS.</li><li>Educators: Gain trauma-informed insights and practical tools to distinguish between language acquisition needs and the effects of stress or trauma.</li><li>Parents and Community Members: Build awareness of the challenges students may face and explore ways to partner with schools to support student success and well-being.</li></ul>
