Overview

Join us for a leisurely stroll through Central Park to discover and learn about the diverse plant life and their medicinal uses!

Urban Wilds & Secret Histories: A Central Park Expedition

Rediscover the world’s most famous park through the eyes of a herbalist and a botanist! Join Moonstone & Mulberry and Visualizing Herbalism for a fresh take on our classic Central Park stroll. While the city hums just beyond the stone walls, we’ll be ducking into the greenery to uncover the "wild" side of Manhattan.

Meeting at the golden statue in Grand Army Plaza (5th Ave), we’ll cross into the park to explore the fascinating plants that thrive in the shadow of the skyscrapers. From the prehistoric resilience of the Ginkgo trees to the hidden medicinal "weeds" tucked along the paths of the Pond, you’ll never look at your morning commute the same way again.

Get ready for your noggin to explode with cool facts as we explore:

  • Botany for Everyone: Simple, non-intimidating ways to identify the trees and flowers you walk past every day.
  • The City’s Apothecary: Discover which common park plants have ancient medicinal uses and which ones belong in a gourmet kitchen.
  • Legends & Lore: Deep-dive into the rich storytelling surrounding these plants—from Native American myths and Celtic folklore to the quirky bits of American history that shaped our landscape.

This walk is designed for anyone with a curious mind, whether you’re a lifelong New Yorker or just visiting for the day. Come for the fresh air, stay for the mind-blowing plant secrets!
