Volun-Tourism Day with Visit Saint Paul Tuesday, May 26 | 2pm - 4pm Where: Waḳaƞ Ṭípi Awaƞyaƞkapi - 265 Commercial St Saint Paul, MN 55106 Join us for Volun-Tourism Day, a hands-on opportunity to give back to the community we love! In partnership with Waḳaƞ Ṭípi Awaƞyaƞkapi, we're rolling up our sleeves and diving into a park clean-up project to help beautify and restore local green spaces in our East Side metro. It’s a meaningful way to connect with each other, serve the city, and support the inspiring mission of an organization that engages people to honor and care for our natural places and the sacred sites and cultural value within them.Whether you're a tourism pro, a community leader, or just someone who cares deeply about Saint Paul, we’d love for you to be part of this day of shared purpose and people-powered impact.🌿 Expect to get a little dirty! 🌿 Participants will walk along an uneven woodland path, so closed toe shoes and long-sleeved clothing are recommended for comfort and safety. Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. All necessary supplies will be provided, and extra water and snacks will be available to keep everyone refreshed and energized.Spots are limited: RSVP today and be part of something great! About Waḳaƞ Ṭípi AwaƞyaƞkapiWaḳaƞ Ṭípi (Dwelling Place of the Sacred, pronounced wah-KAHN TEE-pee) is located just east of downtown along the east side of the Mississippi River. The cultural site features 450 million-year-old limestone and sandstone bluffs, spring-fed wetlands, excellent bird watching opportunities, rich Native American history, and beautiful views of the downtown skyline and Mississippi River. An outdoor classroom and interpretative markers provide added educational opportunities. There is no access to the Mississippi River from Waḳaƞ Ṭípi due to the railroads still in use.<a href="https://www.wakantipi.org/" title="https://www.wakantipi.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi</a> is a Native-Led, East Side environmental stewardship nonprofit centered in Dakota values. Founded in 1997 by community activists, the project area stretches from Lake Phalen to the Mississippi River and throughout the East Side River District.Named <a href="https://www.wakantipi.org/wakantipicenter" title="https://www.wakantipi.org/wakantipicenter" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wakan Tipi Center</a> to honor the significance of Wakan Tipi Cave as a Dakota sacred site, the mission of Wakan Tipi Center is to serve as an intergenerational gathering place that honors Wakan Tipi and the maḳa paha as Daḳota sacred sites.
