Intro to AI: A Hands-On Workshop
A hands-on AI workshop for beginners. Learn what AI can do, then set up your own personal AI assistant. Laptop required
Curious about AI but not sure where to start? Tried ChatGPT once and didn't know what to do with it? This workshop is for you.
In two hours at Persnickety Books, you'll go from "I've heard about AI" to having your own personal AI assistant set up and ready to use. No tech background required — just curiosity and a laptop.
Here's how it works:
We'll start with a friendly tour of what AI actually is, what people are using it for, and the most useful tools out there. Then we'll roll up our sleeves and set up your own personal AI assistant together — step by step on your laptop, with me guiding you on the projector. The last half hour is open Q&A and one-on-one help, so bring your questions about how AI could fit into your life.
You'll walk away with:
- A clear understanding of what AI is and how to use it
- Your own personal AI assistant, set up and ready to go
- Confidence to keep exploring on your own
What to bring: A laptop. That's it.
Who it's for: Anyone who's curious about AI but hasn't really used it yet.
Limited to 20 people so everyone gets individual attention.

Agenda
-
What AI Is and What You Can Do With It
A friendly tour of AI tools and what people are actually using them for. We'll look at conversational AI like Claude and ChatGPT, research tools like NotebookLM, image generation, and more — with real examples from how I use these tools every day in my own life and work. No tech background required.
-
Set Up Your Own AI Assistant
Hands-on time. Together, we'll create accounts and build your own personal AI project step by step — a customized assistant that knows about you and can help with whatever matters in your life. The last part of this block is open Q&A and one-on-one help, so bring your questions about how AI could fit into your specific situation.
