The Blanket of a Hundred Homes: an Exhibition
An exhibition about life & blankets
The Blanket of a Hundred Homes: an Exhibition
Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Ranerrim is a Chinese Malaysian artist whose work explores philosophical and cultural ideas through playful yet pointed socio-political commentary. Drawing inspiration from the absurdities of everyday life, she blends humour with vibrant visuals to create layered, thought-provoking pieces.
In this exhibition, she presents a collection of personal quilted blankets 百家被 (bai jia bei) passed down through generations in her family, belonging to herself, her sisters, and her mother. Each blanket holds memory and lived experience, shaped by the hands of the aunts, mothers and grandmothers that made and used them.
Through personal stories and interviews, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the customs surrounding 百家被 and their place within Chinese Malaysian heritage, as objects of care, continuity, and everyday life.
Alongside the exhibition, visitors are invited to take part in a collective installation: contributing a piece of fabric to a growing quilt that will evolve over the course of the event. This shared act transforms individual gestures into a communal artwork, one that reflects the many homes, histories, and hands that come together within a single space.
15% of ticket sales will go towards the donation of the ESEA Community Centre, a long-standing institution for East and Southeast Asian community in London. There will also be an option to make your donation separately if you wish to donate more
