An award-winning pianist plays from his first published book of compositions. A visual artist paints alongside him, in real time.

Something rare is happening at No More Cafe on April 25.Part live jazz. Part live visual art. Part book release and signing. One room, one night, all at once. Pianist and composer Ben Rosenblum is releasing his first published book of compositions, and to celebrate, he's playing selections from the songbook live, drawing from across his first five albums, and speaking briefly about how each piece was written.Beside him, visual artist Yoko Sano will be painting in real time. Not a finished piece on display. An actual canvas, made in the moment, responding stroke by stroke to the music as it unfolds. What ends up on that canvas by the end of the night doesn't exist yet. What you hear only happens once.The performance. The painting. The signing. All in one evening. Format of the night Doors open at 7:00 PM. Come in early to settle in with a drink. Ben will open with a few words about the book and Yoko's work. The live performance and live painting run through the evening, followed by a book signing and meet and greet. The night wraps around 9:00 PM.Books and original artwork will be available for purchase and signing after the set.RSVP is $13 and includes your first drink from our list: culinary-forward, non-alcoholic, built with real ingredients. About Ben Rosenblum Pianist, accordionist, and composer Ben Rosenblum has performed across more than twenty music genres in twenty-five countries. He has toured with Grammy-winning artists Rickie Lee Jones and Catherine Russell, played with Juno-winner Kiran Ahluwalia, appeared as guest soloist at Carnegie Hall, and performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on accordion. His debut album Instead earned 4 stars from Downbeat, with follow-up records reviewed across Downbeat, JazzTimes, All About Jazz, Jazziz, and JazzLife Japan. At any given show, Rosenblum might draw on influences from ten or more countries, from jazz to Brazilian choro and forró, Eastern European folk, and Irish traditions. About Yoko Sano New York-based visual artist Yoko Sano has a two-decade career in pastel, acrylic, and multimedia work. Born and raised in Japan, she studied traditional Japanese painting with artists Sayoko Terada and Somei Tsubouchi, and became a certified instructor at the Japan Pastel Nagomi Art Association. Since her first exhibition in Kamakura in 2012, Sano has sold hundreds of works across Japan and New York, designed album covers for musicians including Wayne Tucker and Pasqualino Beltempo, and performs regularly in a live painting project alongside Rosenblum, including at Zushi Bunka Plaza's Nagisa Hall and California's Soper Reese Theatre.
