Learn to Sew an Apron (2 week series)

East Bay Depot for Creative ReuseOakland, CA
Wednesday, May 20-Wednesday, May 27  •  6:30 PM-8:30 PM
Overview

A two-session, beginner-friendly class on basic garment construction using a sewing machine.

Two-week class: Wednesday, May 20 6:30-8:30pm AND Wednesday, May 27th, 6:30-8:30pm

Have you ever wanted to make your own clothes but been too intimidated to start? In this two-session, beginner-friendly class on basic garment making students will learn how to read and trace a pattern, how to make simple adjustments, how to stitch a hem, and how to assemble a garment on a home sewing machine. At the end of this two part class students will have their own cross backed apron to take home.

While having some familiarity with a sewing machine is useful, it is not a requirement and even a complete beginner should be able to complete both classes successfully. For extra preparedness, take our Intro to Machine Sewing class on May 13th!

This class is suitable for students age 15 and up, ages 11 to 14 with a paying, accompanying adult. All supplies will be provided. Please plan for a timely arrival. There is a lot to cover in these two classes!

Instructor Cirrus Wood is a self-taught artisan who enjoys coming up with and learning new techniques to make clothing more visually appealing and more durable. He runs the mending and tailoring business Dollars & Yen which came about after years of casually combining elements of both Japanese and American design in his own wardrobe.
