This 2-Day course is designed for the amateur artist who needs to solidify the basic, fundamental elements and structures of color knowledge through acrylic paint. (Must attend both dates!)

Color is one of the most powerful tools when creating a piece of art in any medium. Color not only conveys feelings and emotions, but also passes inconspicuous messages to the viewer. Color Theory Basics is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of color and color mixing with acrylic paint in a 2-Day workshop. The extended time gives more opportunity to practice as well.

The Color Theory Basics Workshop is designed for the amateur artist who needs to solidify the basic, fundamental elements and structures of color knowledge. In order to gain this knowledge, the attendee will apply the information given in class through small projects completed during class hours. The goal is to enhance the students abilities on how to mix colors for the projects. This will help the students achieve a strong visual balance and convey meaningful messages to the viewers of their works.

The workshop will be divided in to 3 small projects that will enhance the knowledge of the participants. This will be an opportunity to practice and get familiar with the blending of colors which will be taught in the 2-Day Color Theory workshop.

Structure (Subject to adjustments day of based on pace of workshop attendees)

Focus on theories of color development and terminology

Section A

Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors including RYB, RGB, AND CMYK color wheel

Demonstration

Practice: Apply theory on a 8.5x11 canvas board - 45 minutes

Section B

Hue, Saturation, Value, and Temperature

Demonstration

Practice: Apply theory on a 8.5x11 canvas board - 45 minutes

Section C

Color Harmony: Monochrome, Complementary, Split Complementary, Triadic, Tetradic, Analogous

Demonstration

Practice: Apply theory on a 8.5x11 canvas board - 90 minutes

Supplies

All Materials will be provided!

*It is recommended that you bring a snack or lunch, there will be a short break. There is a refrigerator and microwave on site if needed.
