KPFA continues its 77th Birthday celebrations with a live music performance by The John Santos Sextet.

KPFA Radio, 94.1 FM on the radio dial and on kpfa.org, continues to celebrate its 77th year with a live music performance, The John Santos Sextet. 55% of our programming is music programming, and this event celebrates that aspect of the station. Join us for Doors Open: 7 pmPerformance Starts: 8 pmLocation: La Pena Cultural Center 3105 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94705 The John Santos SextetCreated in 2003, the Sextet has released ten full-length CDs to high acclaim since 2007. Their recordings celebrate the Afro-Latino roots of jazz.Members:<ul><li>Dr. John Calloway - flute, percussion, piano</li><li>Charlie Gurke - saxes</li><li>Marco Diaz - piano, trumpet</li><li>Saul Sierra - bass</li><li>Josh Jones - drumset</li><li>John Santos - percussion</li></ul>John Santos, is a composer, teacher, writer, producer, and cultural activist with a musical career of over 50 years based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has worked with Cachao, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Bebo Valdés, Max Roach, Eddie Palmieri, and Omar Sosa. He is an Advisory Board member of Oaktown Jazz, the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance (NY), and a former Trustee of SFJAZZ. His latest CD, Horizontes, was released in 2025 on his Machete Records label. November 12th, 2006 was proclaimed John Santos Day in San Francisco by Mayoral proclamation. This event is produced and presented by Joanna Manqueros and Tawfic Halaby, co-hosts of KPFA’s Music of the World.
