Dance of the Soul: Introduction to Sufi Whirling
Learn the essentials of whirling meditation
In sacred community, we gather in breath and movement, in turning and stillness, in prayer woven through the body. A space where whirling, devotional dance, poetry, and presence meet as one unfolding practice of remembrance.
This offering is open to all who are called to explore Sufi whirling as a path of inner connection, and those who seek to understand movement as a way of returning to the self and the divine.
Guided by Sufi Master, Dr. Farima Berenji, this class draws from Iranian (Yarsani & Khorasani), Turkish Mevlevi, and Central Asian Sufi whirling traditions, with attention to both physical discipline and devotional intention.
Each class includes breath work, preparation practices, foundational whirling technique, alignment and core strengthening, guided whirling preparation, and structured turning practice designed to build stability and continuity in motion. With intention, these experiences support presence, steadiness, and deeper connection through repetition and rhythm.
What You Will Learn:
- Foundational posture and alignment for safe whirling
- Breathing practice to support steadiness and continuity
- Techniques for balance and controlled turning
- How to reduce dizziness through orientation training
- Introduction to devotional whirling sequences
- Inner focus and presence during movement
No experience necessary to begin participating. With assistence anyone can learn and master whirling techniques while respecting one’s own limitations.
