For over 40 years, NAMI Minnesota has worked to promote the development of community mental health programs and services, change public attitudes about mental illnesses, improve access to services and increase opportunities for recovery.  NAMI Minnesota champions justice, dignity, and respect for all people affected by mental illnesses. To understand the full portrait, we must look beyond the surface of a checklist. Unrecognized impacts of trauma and environmental stress worsen perinatal mental health outcomes and can interfere with the quality of care provided. This keynote invites participants to step into the gallery to examine these multifaceted dimensions, challenge current frameworks, and explore ways to provide culturally humble and trauma-informed care that honors the depth of an individual’s experience. This keynote highlights the "Conexión Model"—a multidisciplinary approach that helped to link healthcare, mental health access as well as food and social services.
