Learn the basics of woodworking and how to safely use common power tools while making a decorative 8" x 10" picture frame.

Please note this event has two parts - May 14th and 16th (6:00-8:00pm).

Woodworking is a rewarding hobby but can be daunting when you’re just starting out. Stories of injuries from power tools, projects gone wrong, and expensive materials keep many people from getting into this hobby. We hope to help you get past, or avoid, these hazards by teaching you, step-by-step, how to make your own wooden picture frame.

This is an entry level class that will introduce the basics of woodworking with power tools through a hands-on project. It is intended for people who have little to no experience in woodworking but have a strong interest in learning more and are looking for an opportunity to gain confidence in the woodshop.

In this class participants will learn; things to consider when designing a project; how to make accurate measurments and marks; making precise cuts; adding embelshments using a table router and table saw; gluing, sanding, and finishing wood. Each step of the project will start with instruction on how to use each tool and then demonstrated by an instructor. Each participant will perform each step work on their own pieces with assistance as needed. Since the finish will take time to dry, your frame will remain at MakeIt Labs overnight, and will be available for you to pick up the following day.

All materials and supplies needed are included in the cost of the class.

Please note: because wood glue takes time to dry this class has two parts. In the first session the pieces will be cut and glued together. In the second session the piece will be sanded and finished.

Below is a list of tools that you will be using:

· Miter Saw

· Table Saw

· Router Table

· Belt Sander

· Drum Sander

· Palm Sander

The instructors for this class are Thadd Williams and David Bauer.
