ABOUT THE ARTIST
As an interdisciplinary artist, Zi is constantly pushing to cultivate a more sustainable art practice. She utilizes primarily found and repurposed materials to create in a variety of media, including paint, crochet and textiles, illustration, found object work, ceramics, and beyond. To create art in communion with Mother Earth requires and cultivates playfulness, humility, and patience; these tools allow them to contribute to the many unending dialogues within myself and the world around her.
Why She Crochets Sustainably
"Sustainably sourcing yarn and materials for crochet projects has lead me to create pieces I'd never have dreamt of otherwise! It can take a little extra patience, but I find wonky textures, random colors that become a beautiful palette, and even unexpected hardware that can turn something that’s simply pretty into something pretty and functional. The possibilities become endless when you are not bound by contemporary methods of accruing supplies!"
