Drawing from her Panamanian heritage, Shumaker reinterprets myths including ghosts, spirits, and legendary figures, through contemporary narratives. Working from personal photographs taken in natural environments, she creates oil paintings that center the human figure within dreamlike settings, blurring reality and fable.
