OVERVIEW:

Culture and Communication: Tying the Knot is a focused, interactive training designed to strengthen the connection between organizational culture, communication, and leadership responsibility. Participants will explore how values and behaviors shape culture, how communication influences effectiveness both internally and externally, and why understanding the “why” behind actions is critical to mission success. The session also highlights the shared responsibility of leadership at all levels in fostering a strong, aligned culture.

This training is ideal for individuals who influence others, support team performance, communicate across different levels of an organization, or contribute to shaping workplace culture—especially those looking to improve collaboration, clarity, and mission alignment.

What You’ll Learn:

Define the relationship between values, behaviors, and organizational culture and how they support the mission.and

Explain the key components of effective communication, including the importance of understanding the “why” and communicating across all levels.

✅ Identify how individual actions and communication styles influence both internal and external organizational effectiveness.

✅ Recognize the shared responsibility for fostering culture and communication, and how leadership is demonstrated at all levels.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Shelly is the Community Supports Department Director at the Perry County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where she has worked for 18 years. During her tenure, Shelly has been instrumental in building a department focused on providing person-centered, non-traditional services to meet unique and diverse needs. Shelly claims her department gets to ‘have all the fun!’ For over a decade, Shelly has developed a strong foundation in collaborative leadership, strategic communication, and service-driven decision-making. Shelly co-created and currently facilitates the Emerging Leaders Program. Participation in this program has not only enhanced Shelly’s professional skills, but it has also deepened her commitment to cultivating inclusive environments where people feel valued and empowered to advocate for themselves.

Outside of her professional role, Shelly carries these same principles into her volunteer work as a volleyball coach and Board of Directors member for the Survivor Advocacy Outreach Program (SAOP) and LifeWise. Through these roles, Shelly strives to create environments where everyone feels safe, loved, and cared for. Across both her personal and professional life, Shelly’s life mission is for young ladies to grow into strong and independent women.
