Growing and Foraging Plants for Natural Dyeing
Discover the vibrant world of natural color in this introductory workshop on growing and foraging plants for dye.
Growing Plants for Natural Dyeing offers an overview of how everyday plants—both cultivated and wild—can be transformed into beautiful hues for fabric and fiber.
We’ll walk through the essential steps of the dyeing process, from harvesting and preparing plant material to extracting color and preparing fabric. Along the way, you’ll explore a variety of dyed samples that showcase the range of tones different plants can produce, as well as dried and fresh plant specimens to help you begin recognizing and working with these botanical allies.
With a focus on both garden-grown and foraged sources, this class will highlight approachable, easy-to-grow plants alongside some surprisingly common species you may already have around you. Please note, we will not be dying anything during this workshop as the focus is on the plants you can put into your garden or harvest throughout the growing season, not the final dyed products.
Whether you’re a gardener, crafter, or simply curious about working more closely with plants, this workshop will inspire you to see the landscape in a whole new way—full of color, possibility, and creative potential.
