Take a tour of the trees in the longest continuous city park and creek in the District.
Join DC's Urban Forestry Division, Washington Parks & People, and Casey Trees for an immersive walking tour spotlighting the vital role trees play in Washington, DC’s urban environment.
We will meet at the Marvin Gaye Mosaic located on the corners of Minnesota Ave and Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE. As the park is nearly two miles long, do NOT navigate to Marvin Gaye Park in GPS, which will send you to the wrong place.
Over two hours, we will walk about a mile into the park and a mile back. Along the way, Washington Parks & People will share how, over 25 years, community partnership and citizen action transformed the park and its woodland into places of healing, learning, play, and peace for all.
Additionally, DC urban forester Alexander Grieve will highlight diverse tree species in the park—including oak, tulip, and elm—and their unique characteristics and vital contributions to our ecosystem. Along the way, you'll learn how DC selects and maintains the city's trees in parks and public spaces throughout the District.
Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can start the walk at 10 AM.
