Start your running journey! Join our 10-week coached walk/run series designed for beginners to build stamina, form, and confidence.

Ready to start running, but don't know where to begin?

Most new runners over 35 start with a specific goal in mind—better health, weight loss, or finally crossing a 5K finish line. But going it alone can be tough. At MyOutdoorJoy, we’ve joined forces with local experts and coaches to guide you through a supportive 10-week walk/run progression program specifically designed for those with limited or no running experience.

How to Register

We offer two ways to join us. Please select the ticket type that best fits your goals:

  1. The Full 10-Week Series: Best value! Includes all coached sessions, the full training plan, and our Week 10 Celebration.
  2. Individual Weekly Sessions: Perfect if you want to drop in for specific coaching or "test the waters" before committing.

The Schedule & Locations

Sessions meet once per week for 40 minutes plus stretching. We may rotate through different Charlotte greenways to explore the city and vary your training terrain.

  • Week 1 (Kick-off): Sunday, April 19 @ 3:30 PM – Mallard Creek Greenway
  • Weeks 2 - 9: Dates and times vary to accommodate different greenways. The initial group will decide the journey. (Please see the MyOutdoorJoy Website for the specific weekly calendar.)
  • Week 10: Finale Celebration Run! Again, the group will decide.

What You’ll Gain

  • Expert Coaching: Weekly instructor-led sessions covering proper form, breathing techniques, and gear selection.
  • Accountability: A community of new running buddies at your skill level to keep you motivated.
  • Gradual Progress: A sustainable 10-week commitment that prioritizes your health and prevents injury.
  • Homework: You’ll be encouraged to complete two additional walks/jogs on your own or with classmates during the week.

  • Beginner joggers and absolute beginners to run/walk.
  • Anyone looking to improve their cardiovascular health.
  • Those needing an accountability group or partner.
  • Anyone who dreams of running a 5K but hasn't known how to start.

Investment

  • Full Series (Non-Members): $150
  • Full Series (Shared Members): $97.50
  • Premier Members: Free (Please register on the MOJ website)
  • Individual Weekly Drop-in: $25 per session for nonmembers

Note: Exact meeting instructions and pin drops for each week's greenway location will be emailed to registered participants 48 hours before each session.
